The May General Union meeting also provided an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of one of our own as Dr. David Benfield celebrated his retirement at the end of this semester, serving for over 40 years at Montclair State. Rich presented a resolution honoring Dr. Benfield's work and thanking him for his decades of service to our learning community and the Local.
The Essex-West Hudson Central Labor Council AFL-CIO offers eighteen $500 scholarships for one academic year. To be eligible for an award, the applicant's guardian must be a member of a local union affiliated with the Essex-West Hudson Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. To receive an award, the recipient must be a high school senior and be accepted at an accredited college or accredited post-high school education program. AFT Local President Richard Wolfson addressed the Montclair State University Board of Trustees this morning. He discussed the preparation of the University relative to snow removal and the Universities closing, delayed opening and early closure. He also congratulated those faculty and staff getting reappointed, commented on the change of venue for commencement and made another plea for transparency in Board and Administrative communications.
