Statement to the Board of Trustees

At the July 24, 2014 Board of Trustees meeting AFT Local 1904 President Rich Wolfson commented on the University's commitment to keeping the increases in tuition, fees and room and board reasonable. He also noted that the budget suggests that next years student body will be the largest in  Montclair's history. At the same time, Wolfson called attention to the challenge of accessing meaningful information from the University's financial statements and questioned the mounting costs of MontclairOne. Wolfson's statement culminates with a critique of administrative "bullying" of Instructional and Clinical Specialists concerning their contracts and starkly contrasts it to President Cole's compensation package for the upcoming year.

AFT Local Joins in Montclair Protest of Ted Nugent

AFT Lcoal 1904 President Rich Wolfson and Vice-President Bill Sullivan joined Assemblyman Tom Giblin, friend of AFT Lou Smiley and a cast of hundreds to protest the hate speech spewed by rocker Ted Nugent tonight in Montclair. Organized by BlueWave New Jersey, New Jersey Citizens Action and CWA Local 1 the protest included local politicians including Freeholder Pat Sebold, Freeholder Brendan Gill, who also chairs Montclair’s Democratic Party, and Montclair council member Bob Russo at the megaphone.

Krystal Woolston Honored at National AFT Convention

Krystal Woolston (AFT Local 1904 member and Assistant Director of Service Learning and Community Engagement at Montclair State University) was honored this past week at the 2014 AFT National Convention in Los Angeles, CA, as the AFT Everyday Hero. Labor Solidarity in Montclair

AFT Local 1904 officers Rich Wolfson, Ken Brook, and Bill Sullivan (pictured above) supported the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers of New Jersey (BAC/ADC) at their demonstration against developers, LCOR/Pinnacle, at the "Valley & Bloom" construction site in Montclair on Tuesday July 8th, 2014. The demonstration was organized by Thomas F. McIntyre (pictured far left) from the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. Our trade union brothers and sisters called on LCOR to abide by its contractual agreement and use union pension funds it received from California teachers unions to create union jobs.
